On the quest for Samadhi

“The perspective that you have in your examination of the samadhis at the moment is that of a perceiver. You, the ego, the “I” consciousness, are turning your fields of attention in the direction of the samadhis. But it’s impossible to really understand the samadhis through the ego sense.”

—Dr. Frederick Lenz, Rama

Introduction to Samadhi by Rama, Dr. Frederick Lenz

Going beyond words with an open mind

As Frederick P. Lenz, the modern spiritual teacher known as “Rama” alludes to above, Samadhi and the enlightened states are not really things that can be adequately or easily described with words.

For textbook definitions, one need look no further than Wikipedia, or Yogapedia. But there is much more to the subject than word etymology and the history in various spiritual traditions.

There is no true understanding of superconscious states of being until you experience them. As in Zen, proceed with an open mind, or a “beginners mind”, and a healthy dose of humility, this site attempts to do just that. Enjoy!

The enlightened states

Samadhi is an experience of such depth, such joy, such indifference and such love, that nothing else is really like it or worthwhile in comparison, yet it gives shape, color and meaning to everything.

—Dr. Frederick Lenz, Rama
